Food is a primary need for humans, in addition to clothing and shelter. In Islam, the law of origin of eating is permissible (permissible). This will change depending on the impact or other reasons.

Eating will become obligatory when the body will get sick or even die if it does not eat (even in an emergency, which is forbidden). Likewise, it can turn into haram when it violates religious laws, for example, makes it wasteful.

Regarding food, Allah says:

“And eat of what Allah has given you as a lawful and good provision, and fear Allah in whom you believe” (Surah al-Maidah [5]: 88)

Eating halal will make one’s worship and prayers accepted by Allah SWT. On the other hand, people who eat food that is not halal will not be accepted.

Sa’ad bin Abi Waqash once asked the Prophet Muhammad to always answer his prayers. The Prophet did not pray, but advised him to always eat halal food. That is what will cause his prayer to be answered. The Prophet then gave further explanation.

“A person who eats a mouthful of unlawful food, then his prayer is not accepted (answered) for forty days. Whoever grows up with illegitimate wealth and usury, then hell is the most appropriate place for him,”* the more or less the words of the Prophet Muhammad as written by al-Qasimi in Mahasin al-Takwil.

In a hadith narrated by Imam Thabarani, the Prophet also explained that a person who performs Hajj with unlawful capital (clothing, food, etc.) will not accept his Hajj. If Hajj is not accepted because of something that is unlawful, then the other acts of worship are the same.

As a result, consuming halal and good food is God’s command to every Muslim. People who eat haram, then their prayers and worship are not accepted. It is natural that people who eat halal food are not in the spirit of worship. However, if the opposite is true, then it is also futile: it will not be accepted. Wallahu a’lam.

Bahasa Indonesia

Tentang makanan, Allah berfirman:
